Background

In order to strengthen our capacity and broaden our service portfolio, the company now seeks to recruit a high calibre professional for the position of Head Environmental Services reporting to the Director Technical Services. The holder supervises the Principal Environmental Consultants, Senior Environmental Consultants, and Environmental Consultants; and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of plans for the delivery of environmental services in accordance with company values and strategic business objectives.

The position entails working both within and outside Uganda including travelling to remote and hard to reach places. The key results areas include:

  1. Develop plan for the delivery of environmental services.
  2. Coordinate preparation of competitive bids for business sourcing.
  3. Develop and review environmental business services/products.
  4. Lead and coordinate the preparation and generation of project reports.
  5. Initiate, coordinate and oversee field work in line with business objectives and company policies.
  6. Oversee compliance to company Quality Assurance System in the delivery of environmental Services.
  7. Deploy, supervise, coach, and appraise subordinate staff in line with human resource policy manual.
  8. Contribute to the recruitment, motivation, development, and retention of an internal and external talent pool.
  9. Prepare periodic performance reports in line with company policy and guidelines.
  10. Develop procurement plans environmental services in line with the finance and accounting procedures.
  11. Represent the company in official business fora.
  12. Oversee the deployment, utilization, safeguarding and maintenance of company and project equipment in line with company policy and procedures.
  13. Perform any other duties relevant to the attainment of business objectives as may be assigned from time to time by management.

 

The candidate must hold a minimum of a Masters degree in a relevant field in Environmental Science or Social Science or Engineering, with at least 10 years relevant experience in environmental management consulting; 4 of which should have been attained at senior management level. The requisite personal competences and attributes desired

  • Working knowledge of Ugandan Laws, Regulations and Guidelines and Policies for key development partners;
  • Practical knowledge and experience of key environmental management tools, such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Audit, and Environmental Monitoring, among others;
  • Creativity in writing winning bids;
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and research skills to write quality and comprehensive technical reports;
  • Strong report presentation skills;
  • Technical expertise in thematic fields of environmental management and social sciences;
  • Excellent communication; ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend solutions;
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills and demonstrated diplomacy;
  • Ability to make timely and quality judgments and decisions;
  • Professionalism and integrity;
  • Self-starter and with ability to work independently under minimum or no supervision;
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, evolving, demanding, fast paced work environment;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-tasking while maintaining quality; and
  • Timeliness in delivery of work.
